From a Puncture Shop to UP PCS-J Rank 157: Ahad Ahmed’s Inspiring Journey

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission’s (UPPSC) Provincial Civil Service-Judicial (UP PCS-J) Exam is held annually to recruit candidates for the post of Civil Judge. The result of the UP PCS-J Recruitment Examination 2022 was declared last month. Every year, thousands of aspirants prepare themselves for this exam but only a few of them have the chance to clear the exams and the process to become a government official. The determination and hard work of the selected candidates are no less than an inspirational story. One of them is Ahad Ahmed from Barai Harakh village in the Nawabganj area of Prayagraj.

Ahad is the second son of Shahzad Ahmed who runs a small bicycle puncture shop in the village. Due to the financial crunch, his mother also sews clothes to earn a little extra money. Until a few years ago, Ahad also used to repair punctured tires and help his mother in her work. The achievement of Ahad has elated the entire village. Ahad’s father reportedly has been the constant support during the preparation of the exams. He secured 157 rank in UP PCS-J in his first attempt without any coaching and relied on the resources he had.

Education and Aspirations

Ahad Ahmed completed his education till class 8 in the village school. He continued his higher education in Prayagraj, where he passed the 12th examination from Government Inter College in 2012. Following his schooling, Ahad did his BA LLB from Allahabad Central University. After clearing his bar exam he began practicing in Allahabad High Court. Inspired by the then Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, he started preparing for UP PCS J during the COVID lockdown. Ahad Ahmed considers former CJI DY Chandrachud as his idol.

Family Support and Values

Among the four children, Ahad Ahmed is the third child. His parents not only educated Ahad Ahmed but also educated their other children as well despite the financial issues. Ahad’s elder brother has become a software engineer while his younger brother is a branch manager in a private bank. Speaking with media Ahad said that his parents have not only brought him up to this position through struggle but have also always advised him to do enough with honesty and good intentions. He also added that he will try to follow his parents’ teaching throughout his life.

Ahad also mentioned that he won’t shy away from telling everyone that his father runs a tyre puncture shop. He also said that he was his father to take a rest.
